Welcome to the Terminale LV2 pupils of 2009-2010! 

Tout au long de l'année, dans cet article-ci, vous trouverez des documents et commentaires en rapport avec votre cours d'anglais.

Vous pouvez aussi faire quelques révisions. Vous trouverez des liens vers des sites de ressources et d'exercices interactifs variés dans l'article intitulé "Interesting links to Website addresses for exercises".

A piece of advice (= un conseil) : mieux vaut en faire peu à la fois et régulièrement, que longtemps à "chaque" fois et peu souvent !

1) RECAP for Monday, Sept. 7th's lesson:
I. Presentation of the text:
you must refer to the peripheral information:
- title of the text (depends on the sort of document)
- name of the author / writer;
- title of the source (book / novel / magazine / newspaper / collection of short stories / collection of poems...);
- date of publication.

II. WH- QUESTIONS (for an introduction):
1) Who are the main characters?
+ Who are the secondary/other characters?
(Can you give their names, occupations/jobs, approximate/precise ages(...)?)

2) Where is the scene set? / When is the scene set?
= Where/When does the scene take place?
= What is the setting?
(>> The scene takes place in NYC, in 1980. / The scene is set in NYC, in 1980. / The setting is NYC, in 1980.)

3) What is the text about?
= What does the text deal with?

+ What is the aim of the text?
The aim can be:
- to entertain the readers; to tell a (moving / sad / funny / entertaining) story;
- to denounce something;
- to make the reader react;
- to give a point of view on something...


2) You may want to check your skills at "classroom English" :

4) "What's up in the news?"
A chaque début de cours, je vous demanderai de faire une petite présentation (= 30 sec.- 2 minutes) d'un fait survenu dans les jours précédents. Il pourra s'agir d'un fait divers quelconque, d'un événement de portée internationale, d'un événement sportif, d'une déclaration d'un(e) homme/femme politique ou d'une célébrité, d'un fait lié à la météo (catastrophe naturelle...), d'une découverte (scientifique...), ETC...

Présentation orale :
- present the topic (= le sujet):
Today, I am going to talk to / tell you about...
Today, I want to tell you about...
Yesterday, I heard that...
- describe the event (= l'événement):
→ use the simple past (= preterit)
- conclude:
→ express your personal opinion

6) Vocabulary Test:
You have a vocabulary test on Monday, December 14th. It will be on all the words in your notebook, the irregular verbs, and the words in the chapter "Qualities and Shortcomings" in the Blue Book, pp. 67-68.

Don't wait till the last minute to revise!!

8) Holiday Homework:
Revisions, revisions, revisions!!
Make them active by doing exercises (+ cf. § 5 above = ci-dessus), writing paragraphs (mind your golden rules, verb forms and syntax!!), and trying text comprehensions.
